Freakin' Sweet

And I'm curious.  How, when, and possibly why did you start shipping them?  I figured this might be a good question to get the discussion ball rolling....

Not procrastinating from Pseudo, not even a little bit.

Excellent question, naturally. And, y'know, I have no idea, though I'm sure you had something to do with it. Well, a combination of you and CarScene. One of those things that was bubbling quietly below the surface, fed by those moments in your fic, until the whole thing just exploded in an apocalypse of awesome in the form of "Roller Girl" and CarScene. Which I am STILL reeling from.

Best scene in any episode of Cold Case EVER.

I think I started shipping them last season, I just got a sense that the actors really liked working with each other. And I liked the idea of Scotty with a woman like Kat, because she's so unlike all the other women the show has paired him with. She'd make him grow up a bit, and he's kinda alpha, protective, which I don't think she's had much in her life. So yeah, I think it would be just a really great thing for those charcters. Just hope we get a chance to see it happen. :D

Last season, huh? *makes note to re-watch*

I guess you could say I'm a convert! I used to be a die-hard Lilly/Scotty shipper, and wrote several very, very long fanfics to that effect, but then last fall, I decided to write a post-Roller Girl one-shot exploring what might happen if their evening hadn't ended when it did. It was originally just a tiny little one-shot, with some smut, as a Christmas present for 803am, but, when we speculated on what a Scotty/Kat child might be like, I couldn't pass up the opportunity. So, to make a long story even longer, what was originally a one-shot grew to a 2-3 chapter fic, then an 8-chapter fic, then a 20-chapter fic, and now I'm hard at work on a sequel. Clearly, this has gone beyond mere Christmas gift!

I think what I love about them is that they're both so damaged and so flawed, but, when you put them together, they play off each other's strengths and weaknesses so freaking well. Scotty loves to be Superman, and Kat, badass though she is, will let him be Superman for her (him, and no one else). On the show, they have this really comfortable camaraderie that reminds me very much of how my husband and I were before we started dating. The result is that they are fundamentally healthy as a couple, whereas, when writing Scotty and Lilly's relationship in "Every Time Two Fools Collide" and "Fools In Love," they actually make each other's neuroses worse. Lilly refuses to let Scotty be Superman for her, and that frustrates him to no end. In my stories, they're functionally dysfunctional...but Scotty and Kat are just functional. It's exciting to explore these two as individual characters and as a couple in fic.

On a somewhat shallow note, I love interracial couples probably because I'm part of one, and biracial babies are so stinkin' adorable. (Ask me! I have proof!)

Anyway, I'm thrilled with this community! Let the shipping begin!
